6 Pillars of Ayurveda

The 6 Pillars of Ayurveda

Movement

Movement and mindful exercise. Paying attention to how exercise really makes you feel both physically and emotionally.

In Ayurveda experiencing the elements while exercising is important. In Marbella when we exercise I  introduce the  elements of sound, sight and smell while exercising.

Yoga is a sister of Ayurveda and exercises both the body and mind. Our Yoga classes are often taken on the beach or in the lush gardens of our retreats , where you can listen to the sounds of the waves, the birds singing in the warmth of the sun and smell the fresh sea air or the sweet smells from the flowers in bloom.

Exercising detoxifies the body, strengthens the heart, boost your mood and increases your stamina. It strengthens the muscles, calms the nervous system, pumps nutrients into your cells and releases endorphins that make you feel more positive.

On my retreats we include all forms of exercise , whether you like to cycle on the beach front, hike , walk or run. If the exercise you enjoy  is not included in our retreats you can always let me know and I can arrange it for you.

Meditation

Meditation is a foundational practice of an Ayurvedic Lifestyle and is taught during all of my ritual programs

Everyone can benefit from a meditation practice and the best part is that you need no experience or special background. Learn to live more mindfully, cultivate joy while improving your overall health, and experience the best days of your life now!

Meditation lowers blood pressure, lowers cortisol levels, improves immune function, builds inner confidence, and reduces anxiety and stress, increases the anti-aging hormone, decreases inflammation.

With regular meditation, we can influence our bodies, minds, and emotions and move into a place of expanded awareness – a life-changing event.

Meditation practice allows us to see our thoughts, to observe our thoughts, but to realize we are not our thoughts. It is a powerful and profound spiritual technology.

Nutrition

Food is your medicine. Next to breathing eating is one of our most vital bodily functions. We nourish ourselves by converting the energy and information of our environment into the biological intelligence of our body. To create and maintain a healthy physiology our food needs to be nourishing ,our digestive power strong and our elimination efficient.

In Ayurveda and at Rituals Marbella we cultivate health by eating a variety of fresh delicious foods and tailoring our diet to balance our doshas.

We always recommend that food is seasonal and bought locally . It should never be frozen, processed or fried.

In the act of eating we consume not only the calories, proteins, fats and carbohydrates of the food but we are also influenced by our emotional state while we eat, the environment in which we eat and the manner in which the food is prepared.

At our retreats we only serve locally sources, fresh, seasonal delicious food .

Sleep

In Ayurveda there are 3 levels of awareness, waking dreaming and deep sleep.

Sleep is an active dynamic state.

During sleep the body repairs and rebuilds itself, carrying out processes that are vital for mental and physical health.

The minimum amount of sleep that an adult needs is 7 hours per night.

Restorative sleep is essential. It repairs, detoxes and rejuvenates .

Every major chronic disease has links to sleep deficiency .Sleep deficiency causes emotional reactivity , lessens your ability to handle stress , you will be more likely to be sick and less likely to be able to carry out routine activities.

At Rituals Marbella we have lots of recommendations, guidance and advise on how to get the best sleep ever . We know how important Sleep is and the rituals we will provide you with will empower you to sleep better.

Self -care

Ayurvedic self-care is the deliberate act of engaging in activities that nourish you at all levels.

The benefits of Ayurveda are cumulative and self-regulation is the body’s.  ability to maintain health regardless of the ever changing external events.

A daily routine of self-care which you will be guided through during your retreat has benefits that include, improved mood, and feelings of empowerment , increased energy, improved digestion and optimal weight,  increased productivity and discipline as well as improved health ,immunity and well-being.

At a rituals Marbella retreat we introduce the “Rhythms of Nature” which are the circadian, lunar , tidal, seasonal and celestial . How these rhythms impact every major function of the mind/body and how best to understand our sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems.

You will be inspired to improve your well-being in every aspect of your life and encouraged to be a happier more compassionate person.

Emotions

At a very basic level emotions are physical sensations associated with mental thoughts .They inform us as to whether our needs are met.

The quality of your emotions influences the health of your body. Emotional well-being is mind -body-spirit integration and most importantly your emotions are your internal guidance system.

This pillar is one that can be touched on generally or if a client feels that they would like a deeper introduction , I can offer several techniques for emotional clearing and healing .

The breath (Pranayama)

Often referred to as the 7th pillar  Pranayama is the practice of becoming aware of our breath and using it to enhance our physical, emotional and spiritual well-being.

The practice of pranayama helps us cultivate a joyful energetic body and a restful alert mind. There’s a growing body of scientific research documenting the benefits of practicing pranayama on a regular basis, including; Reduced anxiety and depression , lower/stabilized blood pressure, increased energy levels, muscle relaxation and decreased feelings of stress and overwhelm.
